Conjugated linoleic acid health benefits

Conjugated Linoleic Acid is a collective term referring to positional and geometric conjugated dienoic isomers of linoleic acid (18:2n-6), which are found as minor constituents of the lipid of meat milk and dairy product.

Conjugated Linoleic Acid is produced through the action of anaerobic rumen bacteria when dietary linoleic and alpha-linoleic acids obtained from plant material are converted to vaccenic acid (trans 11 C18:1) in the rumen.

Increasing interest in Conjugated Linoleic Acid is attributed to its potential health benefit such as anti-carcinogenic, anti-atherogenic, anti-diabetic and anti-adipogenic effects.

Conjugated Linoleic Acid may decrease adipocyte size, produce favorable effects upon adipokines, increase insulin sensitivity and decrease body weight.

Animal models and human cell culture studies have shown that Conjugated Linoleic Acid can improve plasma lipoprotein profiles and significantly enhance bone formation and cellular immunity.
