Nutritious Parmesan cheese

Like mozzarella, this Italian cheese is well known in the United States diet to it use in dishes such as pizza and pasta.

Parmesan is made from part-skim milk and thus is naturally low in fat. It is a cow’s milk cheese that is usually aged until it becomes quite dry in texture, with salty, sharp flavor. It typically contains 8 grams of fat and 400 milligrams of sodium per ounce.

Parmesan cheese is extremely high in calcium; 100 grams has as much calcium as 1 quart of milk

This cheese is great for weight management since it has more calcium than any other cheese, and it also is very high in protein.

Parmesan pairs beautifully with wine. It can be eaten alongside Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc, Burgundy, Merlot, Dolcetto, Barolo or Vin Santo.
