Horehound herb
Marrubium vugare, has been known chiefly as a medicinal herb over the centuries and is one of the few herbs whose uses have changed little since the discovery of its healing qualities early in Greek and Roman history.
Also known as Bull’s Blood, Even of the Star, Harran, Hoarhound, Horehound, Huran, Llwyd y cwn, Marrubium, Maruil, Seed of Horns, Soldier’s tea.
Horehound contains a compound called marrubin that Russian and German studies have found to have phlegm loosening (expectrinat0 properties).
In Europe, the herb has been used for decades in large number of cough syrups and lozenges. It has been widely used in the United States.
Medical experts recommend avoiding large does because the herb may have harmful effects on the heart rhythm and blood sugar.
